Overview of Gavin House
Gavin House, founded in 1963, is a residential facility in Massachusetts for adult men suffering from substance dependence and abuse. The center caters to more than 100 men throughout the state of Massachusetts and offers male individuals suffering from the effects of drug and alcohol a safe, stable, and home-like environment to recover. The values of the facility are based on the foundation of 12-step principles. The center has a completion rate of 58% which is 19% higher than the state average for a long-term residential facility. The Gavin House residential center is offered by the Gavin Foundationโa non-profit organization which was founded in South Boston, Massachusetts and established in 1963. The organization provides treatment programs, substance abuse education, and prevention programs for youth, adults, and the entire community. The organization also offers a continuum of care for families and adults and aims to improve acceptance in regards to recovery and addiction. The foundation also offers several locations for residential treatment at the Charlestown Recovery House and Hamilton House, both of which are for adult men. After clients have completed their residential programs, they may move on to The Graduate Centers which offers longer term treatment and support. Gavin House also encourages graduates to maintain active social networks so as to gain continued support through the alumni community.
Housing and Food at Gavin House
Gavin House is a residential rehab facility for men located in Massachusetts which can accommodate up to 36 individuals at a time, for half a year. The facility is a three-story, twentieth-century mansion. There 4 bedrooms on the second floor and 12 bedrooms on the third. Each bedroom has 2-3 twin bed, dressers, and a closet. The center has 4 bathrooms with showers and stalls. Residents are allowed to use the computers at the administrative offices Monday through Friday for resume creations and employment searches. There is a group therapy room and TV lounge which is used as a meeting area. Residents are given access to their own kitchen a game room with Ping-Pong and a pool table. The facility also has well-equipped gym with boxing bags, elliptical machine, and free weights.
The facility has an industrial kitchen and an on-site cook. The meals are prepared by a professional chef Monday through Friday. Dinner usually includes meatballs and spaghetti, burritos, soups, roasted pork and more. There is a smaller kitchen which is used for making snacks, breakfast, and lunch.

Residential Treatment
At the facility, clients are encouraged to acquire or renew skills while living a life free of drugs and alcohol. The center does not offer detoxification but may refer clients to appropriate centers. At this level of care, clients are required to see their counselors at least weekly and go to compulsory 12-step meetings six times a week. Here they are required to start working the steps and find a sponsor. The program can last from about 4-6 months.
Aftercare
The aftercare program takes place at The Graduate Centers and provides long term support for individuals suffering from addiction and substance abuse. The program may include 12-step participation, group counseling, and self-sufficient programs.

Pricing
Gavin House costs approximately $300 for a 30-day treatment, although it varies as the facility has multiple locations and offer different treatment options. Coordinators or Financial Counselors are available and will work with clients to help with the development of a comfortable financial plan that is suitable for the client. Clients are advised to meet with the administrative department or finance department to find out the cost of treatment and what it entails.
Accreditation
The facility is accredited by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). Also included are locations licensed by the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services which is within the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Gavin House Advantages
The facility allows clients to go to a different gym on the street if the gym at that location is occupied. Recreational activities such as college football for sporting events are planned for patients. Services such as lunch prep, are offered to clients actively seeking a job or currently working, the lunch pack contains chips, a sandwich, and a drink. Discharge care plan includes previous clients (alums) who have completed a program coming for dinner at the campus and helping talk to and inspire current clients to help aid complete recovery. There are different centers available that caters to the needs of clients whether adolescents or adults.

John has served as a leader in many ways since 1994; He is currently a member of the MA Recovery Homes Collaborative where he is serving as the Vice President. He is licensed to be Alcohol and Drug Counselor and also certified to be a Domestic Violence Counselor and Addiction Specialist. He is also a member of the ABCD (Action for Boston Community Development) serving currently as the Chairman, Board of Directors.
Barbara Samek
Clinical Director
Barbara has over 25 yearsโ experience in the delivery of counseling, substance abuse, and mental health services. She holds a Bachelorโs degree in Criminal Justice from the Westfield State College and a Masterโs degree from Simmons College majoring in Social Work. She is also licensed to practice Alcohol and Drug Counseling and also to be an Independent Clinical Social Worker.
Siu Ping Chin Feman
Medical Director
Siu Ping went to the Tulane University (School of Medicine) where she earned her Medical degree and then went to Harvard Longwood to complete her psychiatry residency. She went to the Partners Healthcare which is based or is a subsidiary of both Mclean Hospital and Mass General Hospital where she completed her fellowship. She is board certified to practice Addiction Psychiatry and Psychiatry.
