Overview of The Extension
The Extension founded since 1987 is one of the most reputable landmarks in Marietta Georgia. Located in Marietta initially as the Marietta-Cobb Winter Shelter, The Extension is one of the best chemical dependency and alcohol use treatment facility in that county. The Extension was a season homeless shelter in which it was later converted to a rehab center in the early 1900s when the establishment discovered that chemical dependency and drug abuse was the real issue while homelessness was just a symptom. Today, it has been named โThe Extensionโ and this facility provides long-term residential treatment services to homeless people suffering from dependencies.
Other than substance abuse treatment, clients at this facility receive educational opportunities and life skills so that they can rebuild and conveniently transit into society. At The Extension, the facility has one mission in mind, โto facilitate a transformation that empowers chemically dependent homeless men and women to be sober, accountable members of the society and to serve a recovery resource for the community.
Accommodation and Food at The Extension
This facility has the capacity to contain 47 men and 20 women in gender-specific buildings. For the men, new clients stay in an open dorm where beds are separated in form of cubicles. Each part contains a bed and a storage space for each client. After 100 days, clients are then assigned to double occupancy furnished rooms in a separate facility. The women share triple-occupancy rooms which are furnished to comfort.
Each building has its own dining area in which patients are served meals. Breakfast is donated, while snack lunch and dinner is prepared by a group of volunteers. Other amenities include common areas, staff computers, and WiFi. The staff at this facility also resides there.
