Methocarbamol Dosage Forms

Just like other drugs, there exists a safe limit for Methocarbamol dosage depending on oneโ€™s age group and what specific condition is being treated. And of course, it is extremely important to follow a doctorโ€™s recommendation regarding the Methocarbamol dosage to be taken so as to avoid Robaxin overdose and understand how long the drug stays in the system.

Unlike other muscle relaxants, Robaxin works on the central nervous system rather than relaxing the muscles directly. As for Methocarbamol dosage forms, the drug typically comes as a tablet or pill and is usually taken 4 times daily when just starting treatment. Administration frequency may be changed depending on the doctorโ€™s evaluation of oneโ€™s condition, but 3 to 6 times daily is the most common.

The drug is supplied in Methocarbamol 500 mg and 750 mg tablets, and there is also an intravenous form which is supplied in 1 mL solutions with a strength of 100 mg. Both 500 mg and 750 mg, as well as intravenous form, are often used alongside muscle rest, physical therapy, or other pain relief measures associated with musculoskeletal conditions.

Variables That Affect Dosage Prescription

The medicine has a recommended dosing range of 4 to 6 grams per day, and this drug is usually taken at an interval of 6 hours. As usual, the prescribed dosage will vary from person to person. For instance, a twice-a-day administration of Robaxinโ€™s 500 mg tablet is recommended for people with health conditions such as cirrhosis, a type of liver disease. Other conditions may affect dosage, and the same goes for drug interactions.

The drug injectable solution has a higher dosage recommendation (for each administration) of 1 gram at 8-hour intervals. The maximum dosage per day, however, is lower than the oral form of the drug โ€“ there is a 3-gram-per-day policy that health professionals must follow. Additionally, the drugโ€™s injectable form must only be used for a maximum of 3 consecutive days.

How To Use Methocarbamol Safely?

When it comes to the safe use of Robaxin or any other drug, it is crucial to follow the doctorโ€™s prescription. Robaxin is generally used as a short-term treatment, and if it is not used exactly as prescribed, there are serious risks involved. This drug may cause side effects such as dizziness, discoloration of urine, drowsiness, blurred vision, fever, and upset stomach. These side effects are quite common, but if they increase in severity or do not go away, it is best to call a doctor. On the other hand, side effects like rashes and itching are pretty rare, and something that one must immediately tell their doctor about, and force a patient to search for alternatives to the medicine

As for storage, the drug should be kept in a tightly-closed container at room temperature. This drug must not be exposed to extreme heat, and storing it in damp areas such as the bathroom should be avoided.

Lastly, itโ€™s almost unavoidable to miss or forget a dose. With drugs such as Robaxin, missed doses should be taken as soon as one remembers it. However, for instances where a significant amount of time has passed and it is almost time for the next dose schedule, the missed dose should just be skipped to avoid a double dose. Double doses can cause overdose, whereas excessive and more frequent use of the drug may then lead to addiction. If someone is suffering from Robaxin abuse or addiction, know that help is always available.
