For What is Xanax Prescribed?

Heap of falling blue caplets on white.

Xanax tends to be prescribed for panic disorders and the more extreme cases of anxiety. Due to its sedative effects, the drug can be prescribed to help calm a variety of other mental disorders too.

Doctors who prescribe Xanax online may also give out prescriptions for social anxiety. When they prescribe Xanax, most doctors have to have evidence of the fear a person is suffering from. Otherwise, it may damage their credentials.

The drug can sometimes be prescribed for phobias too, such as agoraphobia. In this case, it will help the client to be calmer when attempting to step outside their comfort zone. Because of how long does Xanax stay in system and how quickly it takes effect, it has quickly become one of the most popular answers to anxiety and its related disorders.

Xanax Prescription Cost

Xanax prescription costs vary vastly depending on where and how they are purchased. When one buys prescription Xanax online, after it is prescribed it can be collected from a variety of local pharmacies. The cost without insurance at its lowest is $60.48 for 0.25mg, $74.37 for 0.5mg and $97.54 for 1mg. However, some pharmacies do charge higher prices with 1mg costing $137 in some places.
Prices for Xanax may also differ if one buys lesser-known brand alternatives. Most of these alternatives purchased in pharmacies will be slightly lower prices but not have too many unnecessary additives in. However, if one buys prescription Xanax online brand alternatives, the cost may be even lower, but they will usually include additional unhealthy additives.

Is It Possible To Get Xanax Over the Counter?

Buying Xanax online without prescription is possible, but the drugs tend to be much more expensive for the same amount. Furthermore, it is difficult to know the additional ingredients that may have been added to the drug. Xanax without prescription may also be prescribed in larger amounts than 1mg, such as 2mg. This is another reason why it is often not recommended, due to the highly addictive nature of the drug.

Furthermore, according to the US Food and Drug Administration, there are many illegally operating pharmacies online which means one could be buying Xanax online without prescription illegally. This is an offense which is prosecutable, even if one is unaware of the circumstances. The US Food And Drug Administration also provides some ways to spot a rogue pharmacy to help to avoid this kind of situation when purchasing Xanax without prescription.

It’s not recommended to buy and take Xanax without a prescription as it may lead to addiction development and problems with the law.

Should One Resort To Xanax?

If one is feeling the symptoms of anxiety or a panic disorder, then a Xanax prescription can certainly help in the short term. However, it should not always be the solution.

Xanax is a highly addictive sedative drug, and this means that it becomes a risk to take regularly. Furthermore, a Xanax user will build up tolerance quickly rendering the drug useless at safe dosage quickly too.

Taking Xanax should always be a last resort when it comes to anxiety, there are many natural alternatives to help with mental health. Activities such as meditation or yoga can go a long way to helping, as well as simply improving diet and getting more exercise. If one does end up in the situation where a Xanax prescription is required for anxiety, make sure to do it with the full confidence that one is getting the drug from a safe and trusted supplier. Otherwise, anxiety symptoms may worsen in the long term.

I have been to several councilors and people to talk to about my anxiety and not being able to focus on my job. I need to start school but I can’t because I freak out and I won’t be able to keep focus on my child and my job, and to try to add school to it when I know I need too. I bite my fingernails and toenails like crazy every time I’m nervous or mad and it drives me so crazy
    • GoldenGod87
Did they prescribe you xanax if so what mg
  • Marco Fernandez
I need xanax because when i get mad I get anxiety attacks or out sudden when im driven or doing things around the house so sometimes here and there i smoked marijuana and it helped me out but then xanax helped me out by calming me down .
    • Brendan
you definitely do NOT need xanax. Xanax doesn’t calm anyone down especially when you are mad. You saying that to a doctor would be the exact reason they wouldn’t prescribe you.
      • Tony
Have you ever even taken it? It definitely does calm you down. I have had panic attacks for years and it is the most effective thing I have ever seen to calm a person down I mean it’s literally a sedative yea

It’s funny that about the only thing you spelled correctly in your whole comment is, “Xanax” (which is not an easy word to spell). You priorities are absolutely in the right place IMO!
      • J. Scott Kessinger
This is not a funny situation. If you don’t have advice, you shouldn’t respond. Making fun of grammatical errors, serves no purpose here.

I am a very high strung person and have pretty severe anxiety, clinical depression and am extremely prone to stress and it beats me up bad. And when the stress and anxiety happen in the same situation I get horrible panic attacks. I’ve been put on various anti depressants and none of them work… expicaly celexa… I experienced every one of their side effects and it was horrible, Wellbutrin did nothing as well, I’ve tried to go natural with St. John’s wart and that didn’t work as well. And in my experience ( I don’t have insurance) every time I go to a doctor and explain what’s going on they tell me I am exhibiting drug seeking behavior… it’s almost like if you don’t have insurance the drs shun you. Xanax is the ONLY thing that has worked for me. It literally makes me feel like like I am a different person and not in a bad way. I’m more focused and productive at work, never get stressed out and start to get angry, I’m a better father and far more playful and involved with my kids. But every time I go to a dr and try to get help they say they don’t believe me and sayin exhibiting drug seeking behavior and put me on an anti depressant ( hence all my knowledge on them) I don’t know what to do any more. I finally have a job that has insurance and am able to sign up for it (if I can afford it) but don’t know if I can make it 30 more days, everything has been getting worse and I literally feel like there is something wrong with my brain. I’m really hoping I can find an honest dr who will listen to me and actually help me soon

I had to call 47 different psychiatrists before I found one that would prescribe after my first psychiatrist retired. Keep trying and remember, an RNA with therapy practice can prescribe as well. My first prescriber was a nice old Jewish man. Go for the older doctors, since they are used to Alprazolam from back in the day.
      • Andy
Hi Sammy! When you said you called the psychiatrists to ask them, how did you go about doing that? We have to schedule an appt and they’re all close to $325. If I could make some calls and get an answer, that would be everything!

I have worked at hospital in fact I work at 2 hospitals and 1 I have worked at for 18 years. I had an initial drug test upon being hired. Then never again. I don’t know where you are trying to work but I work in Radiology and thats just not how that works. Good Luck
    • Tiffany R Felkner
This hits hard I’ve had the same instance happen. I had an anxiety attack at work in front of hr and can’t even get the proper help from the Dr I was going to. I don’t understand why they won’t listen to you when something is legit wrong they think everyone is out to just get stuff. But people that actually need it can’t get it go figure… I’m trying a different dr and hoping they will give me the proper help I need for just in case emergencies… hope you get yours figured out!! Stay strong until you find the right dr that will listen.

My Name is Robert Barratt in Seattle. I have used Xanax for 40 years. My sources for it (without a prescription) vary, including on the internet in April, 2019. However, I lost the contact information. A Company in the UK. Any ideas? Thank You.

  • Joy
Hi,my name is Joy and I totally understand what you’re saying, when I read your story I felt like it was exactly what I go through and unless you have it you have no idea how bad it is so I’m definitely in your corner.Drs posses ” the power of the pen” and it’s infuriating,I wish there was a pill that would make Dr experience what we do then maybe they’d listen.Unfortunately, there isn’t such a pill but I definitely understand that what you’re going through is real, very real and hopefully somewhere, sometime soon we will find someone that will listen to us,just remember you have a medical condition that is very real and Drs think we either drug addicts or crazy, when we’re neither. Would Drs turn their backs on us if we had cancer? Lots of luck from North Carolina,

I am totally with u Joy and I hope that u find a doctor that will treat you like a human being and with dignity. Stuck in Tennessee…..

Xanax is the only pill that stops my restless leg syndrome. I took it for 17 yrs and every became addicted because I only used it when needed and I broke the 5 mil in half and only took 1/2… YET my new doctor refuses to let me take it and I can’t get a good night’s sleep RLS is horrible. So now I must suffer. When I ran out I did not suffer withdrawal. I’ve been without it for a year now, but I still wish i had it.

My grandson takes prescribed xanax (high dosage from a dr. mill in FL) He cannot function without it and he starts a new job tomorrow and his cheap dad would not send his prescription overnight (which I pay him for) so he won’t have it until Wed. This is a wonderful job opportunity and I hope his dad didn’t set him up for failure on purpose, which is what it seems like.
    • Tj
Hi Dee, I used to live in Florida and um actually moving back to jax in a few weeks. I have been prescribed Xanax for the last 17 years and I definetly understand what your grandson is going thru. I am going to try to start looking for a new doctor… otherwise I won’t be able to work or function. If you have any info on any offices I could go to there for my ex, I would appreciate it. Thank you
  • Anna
I started having full blown panic attacks at the age of 11. I had to go to a psychologist who strongly recommended to my mom to put me on med but she refused thinking I was too young. I continued to see him for over two years and gradually got better. Then in my 30s they started again. I would have one with no warning and for no reason. I also developed insomnia. I was lucky to get 3 hours of sleep. I finally found a doctor who wrote be a RX for 1mg, to be taken half in the am and half in the pm. It was like my life made a complete turn around!! I was happy again bc I didn’t have to worry when the next attack would hit me, and I slept well at night. I recently started a new job and I have excellent insurance, but I can’t find a dr who will even talk to me about them. One dr actually told me, “I don’t write them anymore bc THEY WORK TOO WELL.” And in addition to everything else, I’m the sole caretaker to my mom, who is slowly dying of COPD. I’m at my wits end, I am beyond exhausted and a nervous wreck. Please please if there is anyone out there who can, please please help me.

my doctor just cut me off from xannax how can I get a new doctor
    • Nina
They ( Dr’s ) can’t just cut you off!. Even you have to go to the some kind of facility for addiction problems… They still have to give you some ( lower mg ) Because there’s a only two things that you can die from going through withdrawal is Xanax, & Alcohol. Dr’s cannot just cut your off. They know that too. I would raise hell.
  • Erika
I need xanax because when i get mad I get anxiety attacks or out sudden when im driven or doing things around the house so sometimes here and there i smoked marijuana and it helped me out but then xanax helped me out by calming me down.
    • Nina
Not trying to be rude… But if you want Dr’s to give you a prescription You probably don’t want to say it like that…
  • Mary
I just want enough Xanax or even clonopin to help me get through opiate withdrawals. The doctors put me on suboxone and then I got addicted to that- and let me tell you – withdraws from suboxone are way way worse than from any Percocet or Vicodin or OxyContin I ever took. So i go to a doc for help to get off opiates and he overprescribes an even stronger opiate. And now I can’t find a doc to even consider giving me just enough Xanax or clonopin to help me get off suboxone. I’m so tired and frustrated and just want to be clean. And it feels so impossible right now.
    • Nina
Did your Doctor tell you that what happens to you, when you get a suboxone?. You will never ever will get any type of control substance meds… Even if you had a major injury, need a pain meds, Dr’s won’t give you anything, as soon as they see that on your record.
  • Paul Luebbeet
I think Drs are to fast tp judge if you need xamax who better then us least on a mobth tp month trial only thibg that seems to help me sp there fpe dp i go one the streets amd risk jail time in getti g something i need tp funcation on a day to day basis .So in order to live a normal comfortable life i have tp buy the drug on the street so i cam go to work make a living if the Drs wont help should i just put my life on hold no they get paid very well we best know what we need like i said start us on a trail basis amd see the progress instead of saying we are seekibg drugs not my plan are most at all drug addicts can get it if they want it i need it tp function to make a living drug test us if thats your main worry

I’m on 350 mgs of Liquid Methadone,6 mgs Alprazolam, and 50 mgs Phenegran Daily! It’s but a mere Band-Aid,as I live in “Chronic Pain,” and I suffer from the 3 T’s, Threshold,Tolerance, and Titration! “I no longer use Illegal Drug’s,or Abuse Legal Drug’s,so I’m clean on the Clinic”! My nurse provider there asked me(Hypothetically)which one could I give up? I told her Not Hypothetically,if I had to choose,or be forced to quit one,or the other, then I would be forced to “Commit Suicide”! Those Drug’s may be making other’s overdose, but Not Me,in fact they,my Kitties, and Squirrels, are the only thing’s that are keeping me Breathing, literally!!! They,Doctor’s etc. Don’t give a shit about Us,with their “Hypocritical Oath” to do their Patient’s Harm!!

If you found out please let me know. I am suffering from sudden panic attacks several times daily. I can’t take it anymore. I also have awful chronic pain and severe depression so I cry all day and can barely leave the house. Now the panics are starting at home too. I used to know what situations triggered them but now they happen out of nowhere and more frequently. My current psychiatrist could care less and refuses to prescribe anything that might actually work. I feel like Xanax might work but no one will help me.
      • Cyndee
You need to look for another psychiatrist. It may involve going to several before finding the right one who will prescribe something that will help you. It’s a chore but worth it in the end.
      • Nina
You need to go to the ER, when you are having a panic attacks, and ER Dr would give you some, then it’s easy for you to get a refilled. where ever you are look for a Dr who prescribed Xanax go see that Dr. There’s a site you can look it up which Dr prescribed what… and It’s totally Legal.

Hi my name is David. I am bi polar type 1 with severe anxiety. I also take 60 mg oxycodone a day. I was on Xanax from 2011-2015. I then stopped taking all my meds at that time which was a bunch of bi polar meds, pain meds and anxiety meds.i started smoking marijuana. I have a pain Dr. Who gives me the oxycodone But won’t perscribe a Xanax wants me to see my primary care physician who said that she will not give me a perscription for Xanax cause they don’t perscribe them with a pain med. I told prior to moving I had taken them for 5 years. She looked at me stunned gave me 2 other perscription. I have since had so bad anxiety I was throwing up and ended up in hospital. I have gone grocery shopping and left the cart of food in aisle. I am a single father and through the anxiety and nerves and being stressed out is really getting to me. Can you please help?
    • Kat

So I am also bipolar and have attempted suicide more times than i can count n the last 8 yeard. This dr knows I have a really hard time when I dont have my xanax. She asks me if I feel like im a danger to myself or others….um YES! Im not taking my mood stabilizers anymore ano no more xanax. So I went and found the dark net and u can buy them on there! Haha…I mean, I told her, I guess im going to have to start doing heroin and she said nothing! SMH

I’ve been taking Xanax for over 16 years now because it works for so much more than anxiety. Not sure where you get your information, but I get a 30 day supply of 1mg Alprazolam for $10 without insurance. Xanax, same dosage, without insurance is still only $14.00.

With my prior insurance my primary care doctor would prescribe Xanax for my anxiety. Since my husband’s death in Sept., 2018, I’ve had to change to a HMO insurance. I was prescribed Wellbutrin and Zoloft to try to help with the terrible anxiety I suffer. I developed serotonin syndrome with both and was unable to sleep. I asked my new primary care physician for Xanax because it definitely helped in the past for anxiety. ( I never took more than one pill a day -a 1mg pill which I divided into 4 parts.) My doctor refused to prescribed for fear of addiction. That would never happen !!How can I get Xanax without a prescription

Stop enabling your grandsons addiction and you wouldn’t be in this predicament. He can’t function without Xanax? He can’t function without a narcotic huh? It’s called addiction granny, and your not helping. You’re enabling.

I hope this helps maybe one or two people out there. I’m no professional, however I had very very bad anxiety for about 5 years. No drug was ever used. I did use some self control but the biggest help was exercise. I was able to burn up all my anxiety and self distractions that made me uneasy. Hope this helps instead of something that will take control of you.

I’ve been taking alprazolam/xanax for almost 5 years for severe anxiety, 0anic attacks and some phobias. I live in Utah and I’ve heard they are not allowing as many prescriptions for it. I know a lot of people misuse it and it’s getting a bad name and reputation. I have called around 30 drs and been to a few that said they would consider it if I came in for an appointment. After seeing them it was still a no. I have never misused it and have tried so many different medications and therapies but nothing works like alprazolam does. I lost my dr i was with for over 4 years and cannot find another one anywhere who will help me or even consider giving me something similar. I’m just looking for some help, since my last dr cut me off cold turkey. I dont know why it’s so hard to find a new dr when you can look up how long and what I’ve been taking it for. I’m begging for help or even just some advise cuz I’m at a loss

I’ve been tapering off Xanax but I have been taking it for ten years. I went down to fast on the mgs I was on, now I realize I should’ve went slower. I was on two 2 mg’s a day, and now I wish I had stayed at one 1mg a day longer than I did. I just need to take it a couple of months longer.

I’m having trouble with my anxiety I’ve tried meditation, coloring, and even have someone go to the store for me so I fear of having an anxiety or panic attack. I’ve been having 35 if not more panic attacks in a day. My caseworker said I had 5 in 30 min. I’ve been to the hospital a lot for having panic attacks and it puts me into an asthma attack. My Casemanager is trying to help me find a psychiatrist but they r a 6 month waiting list. It is messing with my daily life. And I’ve been on every medication for my anxiety and they didn’t work or I had side effects. I used to be on Ativan 2 mg 4 times a day and that didn’t work

I am 54 years old, I struggle with panic attacks/severe anxiety that has me a prisoner in my own home. I will attempt to go out and have to turn around and go back home due to panic attack/ anxiety. The symptoms are most unbearable. Family and friends tell me that i should find a doctor and try xanax again as it did stop this improsning desease. Unfortunately in nc especially in my area its difficult to find a doctor tjat will prescribe it. I when i was on it I did not get sleepy, I could function like a normal person and go out all by myself. I was taking 1mg 3 times a day as needed. I felt normal again and I should have never took myself off of it, big mistake. I’m unsure of what you can do for someone like me.
