About us
Located in Marshalltown, Iowa, the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa (SATUCI) is a privately run addiction treatment facility. This facility focuses specifically on treating opioid addiction while treating drug and alcohol misuse. Apart from treating drug misuse, SATUCI views mental health as an essential part of the healing process.
While SATUCI does not provide detoxification or inpatient treatment, it does offer three different outpatient treatment programs that are designed to suit the requirements of people at different phases of their recovery process. These programs are intended to help people overcome addiction and stay sober for a long time.
The American Society of Addiction Medicine has recognized a successful treatment model, which serves as the foundation for SATUCI’s standard outpatient program (OP). Individuals, couples, families, and groups looking for rehabilitation assistance may all benefit from this program. Individual and group therapy sessions are arranged at predetermined intervals for participants in the OP to guarantee regular assistance. In addition, clients get help managing any co-occurring mental health disorders and are introduced to peer support organizations like Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
SATUCI provides an extended outpatient program (EOP) for adults and teenagers in case they need more intense treatment. The target audience for this program is those who need continuous assistance to sustain their sobriety and rehabilitation. Weekly therapy for the EOP consists of nine hours of group and individual counseling sessions. Adults and teenagers alike must take a thorough examination as part of the enrolling process in order to customize the treatment plan to meet their individual requirements.
In addition, SATUCI offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that employs the matrix model of care. For those who need a greater degree of care but do not require residential therapy, this program is perfect. Group or individual treatment sessions generally take up nine hours per week for participants in the IOP. With a focus on person-centered treatment, the IOP integrates principles from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), drug and alcohol education, and a range of therapeutic activities designed to support long-term recovery.
At SATUCI, our goal is to help people recover from addiction and take back their lives by offering compassionate, evidence-based treatment. The center’s outpatient programs are designed to be flexible while guaranteeing that patients get the care and support required for sustained success on their road to recovery.

We understand that choosing an addiction treatment center can be overwhelming, especially with so many options, promises, and marketing messages. Thatโs why weโve developed a clear, standardized rating system designed to cut through the noise and highlight what truly matters: safety, quality of care, and transparency. Our goal is to give individuals and families the information they need to make confident, informed decisions during a critical time.
In this guide, we explain exactly how we rate treatment centersโfrom accreditation and staff credentials to therapy options, facility environment, and family involvement. Youโll see how we assign scores, award badges, and update listings to ensure accuracy and fairness. Most importantly, our system focuses on elevating centers that prioritize ethical, evidence-based care, not just those with the best marketing. This way, you can trust that the ratings you see reflect meaningful standards that help you find the right fit for lasting recovery.
