About us
Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center is a public rehab facility located in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Specializing in the treatment of alcoholism, drug addiction, dual diagnosis, mental health and substance abuse, and opioid addiction, the center provides comprehensive care for those in need.
Operated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services. These include medical detox, psychiatric stabilization, and treatment for substance use disorders and mental health issues. The center employs best practice standards such as Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, and “Seeking Safety” to ensure the highest quality of care.
The recent expansion and renovations of the facility reflect its commitment to addressing the rising needs of individuals battling high acuity substance use disorders. The upgraded patient care unit is designed with soothing color palettes and enhanced safety features, including improved cameras, centrally located observation stations, and an abundance of natural light. These updates create a balanced space that prioritizes both comfort and safety.
Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center has also announced a new collaboration with Counterflow LLC and Buncombe County Emergency Services. This partnership embeds two clinicians at the center who meet with people post-overdose to facilitate their entrance into inpatient care. This initiative helps bridge the gap from emergency response to specialized treatment, ensuring immediate, quality care for those in dire need.
In 2022, the center formally launched outpatient services to offer comprehensive clinical assessment, individual, group, and family therapy, peer support, and medications for opioid use disorder. Peer support services are now integrated throughout the treatment process, providing patients with continuous support from admission to reintegration into the community. This approach allows patients to lean on individuals who have experienced similar struggles, enhancing their recovery experience.
In North Carolina, approximately 1.2 million people have a substance use disorder. The center’s recent advancements in care, comfort, and recovery are crucial steps in increasing access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services. These efforts are essential as the behavioral health care system in North Carolina has been stretched and under-resourced for decades. Expanding Medicaid is a critical step to increase behavioral health access and ensure that needed care is affordable and available to all.
Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center remains dedicated to providing high-quality care to those in need, continuously improving its services to better support the community. For more information, visit the facility’s website.

We understand that choosing an addiction treatment center can be overwhelming, especially with so many options, promises, and marketing messages. Thatโs why weโve developed a clear, standardized rating system designed to cut through the noise and highlight what truly matters: safety, quality of care, and transparency. Our goal is to give individuals and families the information they need to make confident, informed decisions during a critical time.
In this guide, we explain exactly how we rate treatment centersโfrom accreditation and staff credentials to therapy options, facility environment, and family involvement. Youโll see how we assign scores, award badges, and update listings to ensure accuracy and fairness. Most importantly, our system focuses on elevating centers that prioritize ethical, evidence-based care, not just those with the best marketing. This way, you can trust that the ratings you see reflect meaningful standards that help you find the right fit for lasting recovery.
