Overview of RedCliff Ascent Wilderness Treatment Program
RedCliff Ascent Wilderness Treatment Program is an outdoor Behavioral Healthcare program that helps troubled teens aged 13-17. Teens who suffer from some behavioral health disorder are unable to manage their home, school and social life. RedCliff Ascent provides them with a therapeutic environment where they are given wilderness therapy to overcome the problems they face. RedCliff Ascent was founded in 1993 and has helped teenagers and their families for over 25 years now. The wilderness therapy has helped thousands of families when traditional and other forms of healing treatment do not seem to work. At RedCliff Ascent, the goal is to offer a complete healing of mind and body not only for the troubled teen but for family members as well. Research has made it evident that the wilderness therapy has many healing benefits as compared to other traditional approaches. RedCliff Ascent provides a safe and secure environment where the clinical and personal goals growths of teens and families are achieved. RedCliff also offers a Medicine Wheel Wilderness Therapy Program for 18 years or older adults having behavioral disorders. The staff which comprises of clinical directors, therapists, coordinators and others work diligently to provide hope to patients and help them realize their true potential.
Housing and Food
RedCliff Ascent is situated in the northwestern part of Utah in the small city of Enterprise. It is spread across an area of 1,000 square miles. It is a wilderness treatment program which uses the therapeutic and healing power of outdoors and natural environment to help patients build new paths to success. Since it is a wilderness program, patients stay outdoors during the complete stay. All the clothing and camping gear is provided by the facility. They take part in healthy activities such as trekking and counseling sessions. In the facility, there is an Outpost which is a shelter that serves as an emergency safe haven and offers safety and shelter to patients. It also offers fresh water, shelters, shower facilities, extra food, clothing and blankets. It serves as an educational place as well where patients learn geology, botany and ecology.
Patient’s diet plans are created by a skilled dietician which enables them to achieve a healthy body as well. The diet that is provided is simple and bland but nutritionally sound. Usually, students lose at least a couple of pounds of fat and gain a couple of pounds of muscle by following this healthy diet and daily exercise routine of hiking three to seven miles a day.

RedCliff Ascent offers wilderness treatment program for troubled teenagers. The length of stay at the facility is at least 30 days which may extend depending on the teenager’s progress and adaptability. The cost of treatment is based on daily charges. The daily charges include the physical examination, treatment plan development, psychosocial assessment, intensive acclimation supervision, and individual and group therapy sessions. Since they do not offer a residential program per say, insurance companies usually do not offer plans for such treatments. Some insurance companies, might pay for therapy sessions which are accepted by RedCliff Ascent. RedCliff recommends to its clients, the Prosper Healthcare Lending company for financial loans.

Staff at RedCliff Ascent
Steven has an MA in Mental Health Counseling and a Phd in Counselor Education and Supervision. He is a licensed Mental Health Counselor. He joined RedCliff in 2000 where he held different designations over the course of time before being appointed as the Executive Director. He has vast experience in experiential therapies, narrative family therapy, Adlerian therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Jennifer attended her undergraduate and graduate schools in Utah. She has been working with teens since 2008. She has vast experience in human development and group psychotherapy. She is trained in EMDR and passes on this training to young people and parents on how the nervous system impacts their responses to stressful situations so that they are better able to cope.
Scott has a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences at the University of Utah, another bachelor’s degree of Music in Jazz performance and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. He has been working in wilderness therapy since 2013. His areas of expertise include working in trauma, process addictions, anxiety, mood disorders, and building durability, grit and individual worth in patients.
